South Swamp
The South Swamp is fed by streams and wetlands in the West End of Scituate. It is an important "headwater" for the First Herring Brook stream system as well as streams in Cohasset and Norwell.

Winter is an excellent time to view this vast, pristine water and habitat resource. Old logging paths weave throughout the swamp. In the center photo are "Swamp Rompers" near one of several seeps along the west bank and by a stand of Atlantic White Cedar Chamaecyparis thyoides. As seen in the top photo, a portion of the South Swamp sub-watershed is within both the Scituate and Cohasset surface water supply areas.
