Oaken Bucket Pond

Scituate's surface water supply is drawn from historic Old Oaken Bucket Pond, also known as "Greenbush Pond". It resides next to the oldest grist mill in America and Scituate's water treatment plant by Route 3A.

It's a popular fishing spot with easy access and parking. It has a herring ladder which may someday be restored to active use. It's downgradient from major roads and buildings which is not ideal for a reservoir. It's water quality is closely monitored by local and State authorities.

Clapp Brook and Tan Brook, tributaries to Old Oaken Bucket Pond are several of the tributaries studied by FHBWI that should receive Zone A, 200' protection buffers. They drain from the northeast toward the pond and are not entirely shown on USGS and GIS maps. A large portion of Greenbush lies within a Zone A.
