Winter Trees and Shrubs
with Garry VanWart
Club members identified the characteristics of common trees and shrubs found along the Watershed Trail. Learners used a dichotomous key and make a collection of at least 10 tree and 10 shrub twigs. Botanical terms were introduced. Trees and shrubs were labeled along the trail for future observation of growth rate and other phenomena. Species habitat preferences and ecological importance were also presented. Howard Mathews and Bill Krusell, on a separate related session, taught students about clothing and gear for the outdoors.
